Letter from the Director
Dear Parents,
First, let me extend you a warm welcome to Playmates Cooperative Preschool of San Francisco. We're a play-based preschool in operation for going on 56 years — a true San Francisco institution. We have alums who are parents to alums who have currently-enrolled children in school! To say Playmates made a giant imprint on their lives would be the utmost in understatement.
Our environment is a rare one even for the most progressive preschools in California. We rely on a philosophy of love and support that we believe is unmatched anywhere. Every child at Playmates and every parent feels that from the moment the school day begins. Our extra-large playground — continually watched by teachers and working parents — lets children make friends, develop social skills, independently come up with new ways to play and, maybe most importantly, get their hands dirty doing what children do best. Inside, our art and puzzle areas let children develop skills they'll need throughout their lives. They explore, create, observe and interact. They can dress up or cuddle with a teacher to read a favorite book. They can tackle our climbing wall or let their imaginations soar in our indoor playhouse.
We think Playmates' environment is magical and we know you'll agree. Ask any parent. Yes, we are developmentally-appropriate, but Playmates at its best helps children develop into self-confident beings who interact wonderfully with other children. By graduation, they leave with a love of school and a wonderful sense of individuality.
To accomplish this, we work together. And we do work hard. Playmates attracts parents who are ready and willing to participate in these early years of their child's education. We teachers and parents work as a community. Maybe that's why we see even the parents developing such close relationships. They commonly share a quality of courage and dedication to give their children the best possible start.
So welcome, families. We look forward to our 56th year and can't wait to see you and our returning families under our Playmates roof.
